To many young adults this fall will be the first time we are able to excercise our right to vote. I myself will most certainly cast my ballot on election day. The big question is for who. I consider myself to be a Republican and at times it has been very difficult to associate myself with a party that has been so beleaguered. But to me being associated with a party is not about doing the popular thing. It’s standing up for the issues I believe to be right and at times I have taken flak for being a member of the Republican party.

Why am I a Republican? When asked this question two major issues pop into my head. The first being gun rights and the second amendment. I am a firm believer in having the right to defend yourself and the right to own and carry a gun. I am so passionate about this topic that in ninth grade I did a persuasive speech on this topic. If you know anyone who has a problem with the second amendment just think of the quote by the late Charlton Heston,

“I simply cannot stand by and watch a right guaranteed by the Constitution of the United States come under attack from those who either can’t understand it, don’t like the sound of it, or find themselves too philosophically squeamish to see why it remains the first among equals: Because it is the right we turn to when all else fails. That’s why the Second Amendment is America’s first freedom.”

The second issue that I feel strongly about is abortion. I am against abortion unless it is used in dire circumstances. Many people say that women have the right to choose what they do with their bodies. But that unborn baby has the right to live and have a family of its owns. A woman also has the right to save that babies life and put it up for adoption if they are not able to support it.

These are the reasons why on November 3, 2008 I will place my vote for John McCain. He supports these issues that I am very passionate about. Finally, for any of those who feel they need to knock John McCain for any reason. Remember, he served our country proudly and he spent six years in a North Vietnamese prison camp. I ask you to at least show him respect. I believe he has earned it.

Mark Cuban is a billionaire and many in the sporting know him as the owner of the Dallas Mavericks. I recently read through his blog and I really enjoyed what I saw. He is one of those rags to riches stories. He payed his way through college by collecting stamps and he is now the chairman of HDNet. But entries he posted can benefit anyone.

In Mr. Cuban’s blog he talks about the stock market, investment tips, and he even talks a little about what he has done as an entrepreneur. I enjoy the fact that he is willing to help all entrepreneurs big or small in trying to be successful. By posting articles that people can relate to is something that I really like. I also like the format that he has in his blog. There is nothing flashy about it, just a guy giving advice to average people. This is something that a new blogger like myself can use as a role model to be as helpful to people that I can be.

Mark Cuban’s blog is one that I will definately look to for inspiration when I am working on my blog. I hope that I have done Mr. Cuban justice in what I have said.
